then your boyfriends mom answered the question for you… No , you dont need to go to college, but college could help you with business questions, like how much to pay for lease space, employees, taxes and other book keeping. Making your own business into a franchise is a completely different thing, you need investors and people willing to open other stores..

but before all of this you need capital.. money to start the business

Steps to starting your own business: sba.gov
People go to college so they understand business principles to run a successful business, e.g. marketing, finance, etc. The first thing you need to do is a business plan. Contact a SCORE counselor (see sba.gov page) near you to assist. Most new businesses fail because they fail to comply with regulations….and most fail after one year. Good luck!

Like the first answerer, your bf’s mom’s success of 20 longstanding years is an obvious solution to your predicament – yes, anyone can perform well in a startup without college degrees.

Much to both our dismay, like everyone advises, college education will definitely help you up on the salary pedestal as well as various other matters in life.

If you ever need extra help, you may contact the SBA (Small Business Administration), an organization whose intent is responding to the needs of small business entrepreneurs.

That is the great thing you do not need to go to college to start your own business. The thing is it depends on what you want to do. You will need to educate yourself on the mechanics of starting a business. Talk to your mother in law she could tell you alot about how to get started. I would go with the tanning salon a bar can be very time consuming and you have to worry about people stealing the whiskey it can be fun at times but only if you do something similar to coyote ugly. Even then you would still need to be a down to business type. Good luck.

no, but you need to know how to keep business, accounting and tax records, so you either hire someone to keep track of that stuff for you or you take some business courses and learn to do it yourself – turning a business into a franchise is very expensive and not even worthwhile thinking about if you have less than 1million per year sales and $100k net profit from one location – if you’re thinking that way – just look into buying a franchise

the only thing you need to be is over 18 years old in the United States. Look at your replies you have 5 or 6, if you could make money by getting replies you would have made money. If you are selling someone wants you charge them more then what you paid for it plus al ittle for expenses and a little for profit and your a business woman. If you are a good looking woman you have your marketing already done, nothing sells better then a good looking woman, nothing. Good Luck email me if you need more help and help in financing your business.
